Comprehensive Health Assessments: What Sets Them Apart from a Regular Physical

Not every checkup is created equal. A comprehensive assessment is designed for adults who want a documented, personalized plan — not a five-minute summary.

What "comprehensive" actually means

A comprehensive assessment goes beyond the standard vitals-plus-basic-panel format. The visit is longer (45 to 60 minutes), the laboratory panel is broader, and the output is a documented Health Action Plan rather than a verbal summary. It is designed for adults who want their preventive plan on paper and want an actual follow-up to review outcomes.

The expanded laboratory panel

A comprehensive assessment typically includes everything in a baseline panel plus:

Advanced lipid markers: apolipoprotein B (ApoB), lipoprotein(a) — better cardiovascular risk predictors than LDL alone.

Inflammation: high-sensitivity CRP.

Uric acid — relevant for cardiometabolic and joint health.

Vitamin D, vitamin B12, ferritin, magnesium.

Complete thyroid panel: TSH, free T4, and free T3 (with anti-TPO if indicated).

Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR for insulin resistance screening.

Sex hormone panel when indicated (see our hormones and aging article).

The written Health Action Plan

The output is not a verbal summary at the end of the visit — it is a written document delivered to your patient portal. It contains: your major findings, cardiovascular risk score, prioritized recommendations (screening, medication, lifestyle), a clear follow-up schedule, and any referrals. Adults who leave with a document are far more likely to act than adults who leave with a memory.

Who should choose the comprehensive tier

Choose the Complete Health Assessment if any of these apply: you are over 40, you have at least one cardiometabolic risk factor, you have unexplained symptoms (fatigue, weight change, sleep issues), you have not had a proper checkup in 3+ years, or you simply want the documented plan and follow-up. If you want the same depth plus longevity and hormone testing, see our Precision Longevity Assessment.

Same-week appointments are typically available. Reach out via the contact form and mention which tier you prefer, or explore all options in our Health Assessments catalogue.

Frequently asked questions

Is ApoB really better than LDL?+

For most patients, yes. ApoB counts the number of atherogenic particles, which is a more direct measure of arterial risk than LDL cholesterol concentration alone.

How long until I get the written action plan?+

Usually within one week after your blood work results are back — sooner if your labs are straightforward.

Is the follow-up included?+

Yes — one dedicated follow-up appointment is part of the Complete Health Assessment.
