How tirzepatide differs from semaglutide
Tirzepatide activates two gut hormone receptors — GLP-1 and GIP — instead of one. The SURMOUNT-1 trial showed mean weight loss of 20.9% at the 15 mg dose over 72 weeks. Head-to-head data (SURMOUNT-5) show tirzepatide superior to semaglutide 2.4 mg for weight loss.
Mounjaro (diabetes) vs Zepbound (obesity)
Mounjaro is Health Canada-approved for type 2 diabetes. Zepbound (approved in the US, and increasingly available in Canada in 2025–2026) is the same molecule labelled for chronic weight management. Titration schedules are identical: 2.5 mg → 5 → 7.5 → 10 → 12.5 → 15 mg, increasing every 4 weeks as tolerated.
