What private blood collection is (and is not)
Private blood collection is a paid, scheduled visit at a licensed clinic where a registered nurse draws the blood samples requested on your requisition. Samples go to an accredited laboratory and results are returned to the prescribing clinician, who reviews them with you.
It is not a diagnostic lab in itself — the analysis is done by a reference laboratory, the same kind used across the health system. What you pay for is fast, comfortable access, no line, and a clinician who takes the time to explain the results.
At CurAge Santé, blood collection is delivered by our registered nurse Meggan in a dedicated draw room, with morning slots available six days a week.
How the visit works, step by step
Book online for a fasting-friendly morning slot (7:30–10:00 typically). If your requisition requires fasting, avoid food for 10–12 hours; water and prescribed medications are allowed.
Arrive 5 minutes early with your government ID, insurance card if applicable, and the requisition (paper or digital).
A brief check-in confirms fasting status, hydration, and any concerns like previous fainting or difficult veins.
The draw itself takes 5–10 minutes. We prioritize a single, comfortable venipuncture using the smallest appropriate needle.
Samples are labelled at the bedside, refrigerated if required, and picked up by the reference laboratory the same day.
Results are transmitted directly to your prescribing clinician, usually within 24–72 hours for common panels.
Cost, requisitions, and insurance
The blood collection appointment itself is a flat fee. Laboratory analysis is billed separately by the reference laboratory according to the panel prescribed. Many private insurance plans reimburse a portion of both — always request a detailed receipt.
